St. Patrick's Day Playground Clean-Up

In Storytown, our unit theme is "Making a Difference." Last week we wrote an action plan that would help us make a difference in our community. Today is St. Patrick's day, and we decided to stick with the theme of GREEN by going out to our Rose Hill Playground and cleaning up all the trash we could find. This did make a difference to our school community because we use this space to play every day, especially when it's so beautiful outside! We found a lot of trash, plus some other very interesting things, like toys, pencils, and a watch. Please watch the slide show and feel free to comment!

Nice job, Fifth-Graders! In Australia, we have a thing called 'emu parades', where everyone gets in a line, and walks along, keeping the line, and picking up every piece of rubbish they find. The 'emu' part comes from the fact that everyone looks a bit like an emu, with one hand always darting down to pick something up. There's also 'Clean-Up Australia' day on the first Sunday of every March, where people go out to clean up areas around the country. There's always a news story on TV about how much rubbish has been picked up, and what weird stuff has been found. One year, someone found a bag with thousands of dollars in it.

I had a fun time helping to clean up our playground on St. Patricks Day. One of my friends stepped in poop! We found a broken watch, which was kind of cool. IF you haven't watched the video yet, be sure to watch it and you can see all the trash we cleaned up and all the pollution in our community that needs to be dealt with.

the best part about the GREEN clean up was the gloves and the trash bages the second best thinge is that we had fun with our friends and last but not less the snacs at the end of the GREEN CLEAN up by.

Great job you guys! I love the music and all the pictures. What did you do with the lip gloss? Did Miss Springer take it? I noticed she had shiny lips today. Hmmmmmm.... I also noticed she had a new(ish) watch.

Keep put the great work everyone!

Great job, 5th graders! And you all look so angelic! :) Doing a cleanup day was a great example for the younger kids who look up to you in this school.

Great job 5th grade! It was great to see the video of all your hard work. You are setting a good example for younger kids. I taught kindergarten for a few years and my class did a playground clean up for Earth Day. What a creative idea to do a green clean up for St. Patrick's Day.
Keep up the good work!

Great job 5th graders. What you are doing will make a difference not only for you but others too. You are also setting a good example for younger kids. I was a kindergarten teacher and we did a clean up project for Earth Day. What a good idea to extend it to St. Patrick's Day as well.
